Adjusting your plan, illness & holidays

What do Light, Base and All-In mean – and where do I change the training mode?

The training mode lets you control your training load at the push of a button: Light removes about two sessions per week and makes the rest easier, Base is the default, All-In adds a session and makes the sessions longer and harder. You can change it via Home screen → orange box → Training plan page. Only available for plans in individual training.

The training mode is the core idea behind how you control your own training load in Trait: with the push of a button, you switch between three modes – for example, train “light” during a packed work week or on vacation and then switch back.

ModeEffect
Lightabout two fewer sessions per week; the rest become easier and less strenuous
Basedefault
All-Inone more session; the sessions become a bit longer and harder

Where to change the mode

  • Home screen → orange box → Training plan page – that's where the actual setting is, or
  • Stats page → Training progress → small i icon – leads to the same menu.

Only in individual training

The training mode is only available for plans in individual training. If you've chosen a fixed target time (e.g. “marathon in 4:00 h”), the option isn't there: after all, you've set yourself the task of achieving that time – so certain sessions have to be run. If you want flexibility with your training load, you need a plan in individual training and accept that the achievable time then stays open.

How it relates to your forecast

The mode is linked to your race forecast: Light corresponds to the cautious scenario (worst case), All-In to the optimistic one (best case), and Base sits in the middle. If you want to move closer to the best case and can handle the load, set the mode towards All-In and run the sessions as planned as much as possible.

If it's not about a whole week but just a single day, the alternatives to today's session are the better tool.
