Getting started & training plan

Can I plan multiple races or intermediate goals?

A Trait plan is always geared towards one goal. You reach intermediate goals by creating plans one after the other – first for the intermediate goal, then for the main goal. This is free and possible as often as you like.

Every Trait plan is geared towards one goal: one race, one distance, one date. The plan is planned backwards from this goal. Storing multiple races in one plan at the same time isn't currently possible. We know many of you would like this, and we're happy to take the request on board.

How to work with intermediate goals

  • First create a plan for your intermediate goal, e.g. 10 km in four months.
  • Once that race is done, create the next plan for your main goal. Trait will ask for your current level again – so the new plan starts exactly where you are now.
  • Creating a plan is free and possible as often as you like, see Can I recreate my plan?

Especially for big jumps (e.g. from under 5 km to a marathon), intermediate goals aren't just a workaround but the more sensible approach. You can read why under Trait warns that my goal is unrealistic. Also, since plans spanning more than a year aren't supported, longer projects always go through several plans.

A tune-up race in between? You can run a smaller race like a normal session – Trait evaluates it like any other run. The plan itself stays geared towards your main goal.
